The Department of Politics at Sheffield is one of the leading research departments in the UK. Some of the most prominent scholars in the field of Politics are members of staff here. Our outstanding international research reputation was recognised in RAE 2008 with 75% of our work identified as world leading or internationally excellent. Outstanding teaching quality was confirmed by the award of the maximum 24 out of 24 by the Quality Assessment Agency.

We pride ourselves on the atmosphere of friendliness and good staff-student relations.

There are 26 academic members of staff including 14 professors, all actively engaged in research and teaching. This provides a breadth and depth of expertise focussed around our five research groups: Comparative Politics, Governance and Public Policy, Political Theory, International Relations and Political Economy.

Over the last 7 years, members of staff have produced of 183 articles in refereed journals, 36 single or co-authored books, 22 edited or co-edited books and 204 chapters in books. In the same period, 50 MPhil and PhD students have graduated, and over £1 million generated in research grant income from a wide variety of sponsors.
