Biography

I joined the Medical Care Research Unit in 1991 as project manager for an evaluation of a regional trauma system in the UK. Since then I have completed a number of large research projects in the area of pre-hospital care, ambulance service 999 call assessment systems and major trauma. In recent years I have worked closely with the Department of Health Ambulance Policy Team to support implementation of policy changes in ambulance service performance measurement. I am currently leading an evaluation of the new NHS 111 urgent care telephone number and I am joint Principal Investigator on a 5 year NIHR Programme Grant to develop new ways of measuring quality of ambulance service care.

Research Interests

My research interests are evaluation of new services, pre-hospital care and healthcare systems development particularly in emergency and urgent care.

Teaching Interests

I am Deputy Director of the MSc in Clinical Research and teach on research proposal writing, dissemination and consensus methods.
