International Finance and Economics - MSc

About the course

1 year full time/2 years part time

This course gives you the tools to help understand the impact of international economic developments. We give you a thorough grounding in the theory and analytical techniques required to understand contemporary open economies and the operation of internationally integrated financial markets. You can choose an area of specialisation.

Entry requirements

A good undergraduate degree in economics. We'll also consider students with very good undergraduate degrees in related subjects with some economics and a strong mathematics or statistics component. If you have other qualifications, please contact the Postgraduate Secretary for advice.

English language requirements for overseas students

IELTS, minimum score 6.5 or TOEFL 90 in the iBT.

Where your masters can take you

Recent graduates now work as economists with leading financial services and consultancy firms, government departments here and abroad, and as economists with international organisations such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Our research influences policy

Our academic staff have provided research and policy advice for all the major UK government departments and international organisations such as the International Labour Organisation, the World Bank and UNESCO.

We also advise companies in the pharmaceutical sector. Our main research interests are applied economics and econometrics including labour, international finance, health, education and development.

Our staff advise government departments and international companies.

Facilities

Postgraduate students have their own computer laboratories in the department. We provide support for Microsoft Office, Eviews, Microfit, Maple, SPSS, and support and training for STATA.

The department is close to St George’s Library, which holds an extensive collection of economics books and journals. Many of our resources are now available online.
