Description

Robert Stern is one of Britain’s most important historians of philosophy. He is best known for his work on Hegel, and has played an extraordinarily active role in the life of UK philosophy. For health reasons, Stern has recently retired from his position as Professor of Philosophy at the University of Sheffield.

We are holding an event in the Firth Court Council Room at the University of Sheffield all day on Saturday 18th May and Sunday 19th May with the aim of celebrating his distinguished career and discussing his work with a number of his peers with whom he has worked with for decades. The invited speakers will reflect upon Stern’s work, and his contributions to the history of philosophy. This will focus on his work on Hegel, as well as other figures Stern has worked on, including Kant, Luther, and Knud Løgstrup.

Speakers:

Stephen Darwall (Yale)

Beatrice Han-Pile (Essex)

Sebastian Gardner (UCL)
