The University of Sheffield
Erasmus Programme

The Learning Agreement

What is it?

The Learning Agreement is an official Erasmus document, which is issued to most students taking part in the programme.

The purpose is to record your provisional module choices on there and have them approved and signed by contacts in your home university and at the University of Sheffield.

You can find an example of the Learning Agreement the University of Sheffield issues to its outgoing Erasmus students below:

When do I have to complete this document?

The University of Sheffield does not have a set deadline for completing this document. However, some of the academic departments require students to complete and send it before they arrive in Sheffield.

You are advised to check with your host department in Sheffield as well as your Coordinator in your home university to see what their particular requirements are in relation to the Learning Agreement.

How do I complete it?

Please follow the instructions on the 'Registering for Courses' page and write your provisional module choices on the Learning Agreement.

You can then pass it to your Coordinator in your home university for approval.

Some Important Notes on Learning Agreements

I haven't been asked to complete a Learning Agreement!

Don't worry. You may not have to.

Please check with your Erasmus Coordinator in your home university if you are not sure.

I have been asked to get the Learning Agreement signed when I arrive in Sheffield

This is also fine.

Please note though that the International Exchanges Unit will organise some contact hours for signing forms and that these will be communicated to you by email and at the welcome meeting.

Please also remember that the Learning Agreement will need to have been signed by your Erasmus tutor in Sheffield before it can be counter-signed by the International Exchanges Unit!
