Emily Whitehouse as a Titan

Dr Emily Whitehouse, a lecturer at the Department of Economics, was invited to be a Titan at the Economic Research Council's annual Clash of the Titans forecasting event in December 2023. This event sees three leading economists unveil their predictions for the UK economy in front of an audience of industry professionals, academics and students.

Titans were asked to forecast GDP growth, inflation, unemployment, interest rates and wage growth from 2023:Q4 to 2024:Q1, as well as suggest a 'Black Swan Event' (an unpredictable event with severe consequences) that would impact the accuracy of their forecasts.

Emily has been a lecturer at the University of Sheffield since 2020. Her research is primarily centred on time series and financial econometrics, delving into areas such as explosive autoregressive processes, real-time monitoring of economic and financial time series, structural breaks in volatility, and advanced methods in forecast evaluation.
