Description

Abstract: Video segmentation is the process of dividing videos into distinct regions based on various characteristics, including object boundaries, motion, color, texture, or other visual features. The primary objective of video segmentation is to delineate and separate different objects from the background and temporal events within a video. This process aims to offer a more detailed and structured representation of visual content. In the realms of computer vision and multimedia, video segmentation plays a pivotal role by facilitating the identification and characterization of individual objects and events, along with the organization and classification of video content. This presentation will delve into strategies within the field of video segmentation, with a specific focus on video instance segmentation (VIS) methods and emerging research interest on video segmentation with motion expressions (MeVIS).

Short biography:  Dr Lin Yuanbo Wu earned her PhD from The University of New South Wales, Kensington, Sydney, Australia. Currently holding the position of Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Swansea University, United Kingdom, Dr Wu is driven by a passion for addressing real-world challenges in the fields of computer vision and machine learning. With over 70 peer-reviewed research articles, including two book chapters, published in premier journals and proceedings, she has established herself as a leading researcher. Dr Wu's research spans various computer vision tasks and machine learning domains, focusing on video content understanding (e.g., video instance/panoptic/object segmentation, object detection/tracking), target re-identification, incremental learning, Generative AI, and AI-based advancements for medical studies. Notably, she achieved the 2nd Place Award in the 5th Large-Scale Video Object Segmentation Challenge VIS Track, ICCV 2023, and the 2nd Place Award in the Pixel-pixel Video Understanding in the Wild Challenge VPS Track, IEEE/CVF Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) 2023. Currently serving as an Associate Editor for prestigious journals including IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics (IF: 11.8), IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems (IF: 14.255), IEEE Transactions on Multimedia (IF: 8.182), IEEE Transactions on Big Data (IF: 4.271), and Pattern Recognition Letters (IF: 4.757), Dr Wu's expertise extends to leadership roles as an Area Chair for ACM Multimedia 2023 (Ottawa) and 2022 (Lisbon). Dr Wu is a Senior Member of IEEE and member of ACM.
