Postgraduate taught (PGT) students

Postgraduate taught (PGT) students may enrol on SEAS language modules as a not-for-credit, self-funded student.

If your degree programme offers unrestricted credits (these are credits you may use outside your home department) and you don’t wish to use them to study one of our languages, you can still take one of our languages on as a not-for-credit self-funded student through the Languages for All scheme.

See the Languages for All website for more information

Postgraduate research (PGR) students

If you are postgraduate research (PGR) student wishing to enrol on a SEAS language module as part of your doctoral training, please email Megan Morris to register your interest.

Members of the public and University of Sheffield staff

SEAS language modules are also available to members of the general public and University of Sheffield staff on a self-funded basis through the Languages for All scheme. All SEAS language modules take place Monday-Friday between 9:00am and 6:00pm.

The Sheffield Confucius Institute offers Mandarin classes outside of normal working hours. For further information, see the Sheffield Confucius Institute website.

Enrolment for not-for-credit and self funded students

To apply for courses in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese, you can apply online by completing the SEAS LFA enrolment form. Once you have submitted the form, the SEAS office will contact you to confirm which module you are pre-registered for or, if necessary, invite you to come for an interview with a Language Teacher who will assess your language level. We will also confirm which steps you need to take to finalise your enrolment.

By completing the online enrolment form you are not guaranteed a place on your chosen module.
