Description

The module begins by introducing students to core concepts and institutions in the European Union: free movement of capital, freedom of establishment, regulatory competition and supranational corporate forms (especially the Societas Europaea); as well as the means by which they are implemented in law: treaty, directive, regulation, case law and recommendation. It then focuses on a number of topical issues, including, for example, corporate governance reform, executive pay in financial institutions and other public companies, regulation of hedge funds, private equity and credit rating agencies, and regulatory responses to the financial crisis more generally.
