Ed Matthews, PGR and Research Support Officer

After graduating, I explored several career paths spanning the private sector and the charity sector, considering a career in academia at one stage, hopping from city to city along the way. After years of looking, I feel I’ve finally found a city to call home and a career path that’s right for me. It’s always been very important to me that I feel a sense of purpose and social value in what I do. Working in the Department of Philosophy has brought me that in abundance and fostered a genuine sense of connection to the place I work, and the people I work alongside.

I’ve felt nothing but welcome since the day I arrived, sensing from the start that academic and professional service staff in this department work as one cohesive and supportive team. As for my role, supporting researchers (both staff and postgraduate students) to achieve their full potential always poses a truly rewarding and satisfying challenge. Not a day goes by that I don’t feel grateful to work alongside such interesting, intelligent, and passionate people.
