Mechanical Engineering academic wins University Education Award

Congratulations to Dr Candice Majewski, recognised in the University's Education Awards.

Candice

Dr Candice Majewski, a Senior Lecturer within our Department of Mechanical Engineer, received a University Education Award for 'Inclusivity and Diversity in Education' at the recent Education Awards in Sheffield.

This award recognised someone who has played an important role in creating inclusive learning environments where all students feel valued and included. Candice was nominated by colleagues on the Diversity Confidence in Engineering (DiCE) project for volunteering to develop and deliver an inclusivity-focused tutorial session to all first year students and their tutors across the Faculty of Engineering.

Talking about her award Candice said; "many people are keen to be more inclusive, but it can sometimes be difficult to know where to start.  The purpose of these tutorials was to encourage people to think about actions we can all take in order to help reduce barriers and make sure everyone feels safe, welcome and included.

She added, "although it's great to be nominated for my work on this, I'd also like to thank our students and staff for engaging so well during the sessions - it really made them fun as well as educational!"

The Education Awards recognises and celebrates excellent practice in learning and teaching. The awards are jointly run by the University of Sheffield and the Students’ Union. Nominations were open for staff or students who teach and those who have made significant contributions to education at the University with 12 award categories ranging from Teaching Practice to Education for Sustainable Development.
