MSc Archaeology Student Experiment

Our MSc Student Paul has been busy in the field making progress on the experiments for his dissertation

MSc Archaeology Students

Paul is experimenting using peat charcoal and wood charcoal as a fuel for iron smelting in bloomery furnaces, based on archaeological evidence from the North of Scotland. He will conduct smelts using both fuels and then conduct analysis on the furnace material, iron and slag.

Keep following us for updates as the experiment continues!
