Software for Research Computing Support

On behalf of the Research Computing Community, we install and maintain a list of software products that are essential for research activities. Some of these products are free while the others are commercially licensed. We also maintain and distribute the commercial licenses for such products.

There is also a scheme for joint purchasing of software, negotiated on behalf of all UK universities, by CHEST.
Chest Web Site lists all software that has been subject to negotiations and can be purchased by the participating universities at the preferencial rates.
Chest representative for Sheffield University is Peter Armstrong who can be contacted if any purchase requires his approval

Current License Usage

We hold floating licenses for a few commercially available software that are essential to research activities and monitor them.

You can see the current license usage via our license monitor pages.
