Practice

The main practice premise, Porter Brook Medical Centre is situated close to the centre of Sheffield in Sharrow. The building is purpose built and was opened in 1999. In addition the practice also has a base in Sheffield Hallam University on the City Campus.

The practice serves two distinct populations - the local population around Porter Brook and the students of Sheffield Hallam University. Students can and do attend both sites.

The practice aims to provide a high quality and comprehensive service to patients and a supportive environment to work in.

The non-student practice population is a varied one - reflecting the population of Sharrow and Nether Edge, patients from all types of backgrounds are seen.. The practice prescribes for Substance Misusers with the support of the Community Health Team and also provides GP services to the residents of Phoenix House Family Centre and Aldine House a secure unit for adolescents. The student population provide ample exposure to mental health problems and the field of sexual health. Given the larger numbers of students on the list there are proportionally only small numbers of elderly patients however the practice does have patients in six of the local residential and nursing homes, for which we hold the LES contract for.
