Practice

The team would like to welcome you to Mosborough Health Centre. We are committed to providing high quality care to patients and work hard to achieve a supportive, learning environment for clinicians and staff. For many years we have provided undergraduate training and were extremely pleased when we became a training practice in November 05.

Mosborough Health Centre is a purpose built premises situated 7.4 miles from Rotherham, 5.9 miles from Sheffield and 6.8 miles from Chesterfield. The health Centre is bright, comfortable and `user-friendly´ for disabled people. Car parking is available to the side of the building.

With a previous agrarian economy Mosborough has seen a decline in its main industry of coal-mining, the expansion of surrounding suburbs and the creation of townships now makes Mosborough an electoral ward of the city of Sheffield. There is much middle to upper end housing development, on greenfield sites next to the practice and elsewhere. The population is changing as young professional couples with families move in. The Practice has a mixed social class 2-5 and serves approximately 6200 patients.

It is our aim to offer a wide range of appointment times to our patients. Each appointment time is 10 minutes and available with a Doctor of the patients choice. To improve access we offer a telephone consultation surgery which is available each morning. Three mornings a week we offer a nurse practitioner run clinic which deals with all minor illness/problems. There are routine nurse appointments every day at varying times. Children who are very ill will always be seen as soon as possible if brought to the Health Centre

Out of Hours Care

The Partners decided not to opt out of out of hours but to retain control. We contract out to the Sheffield GP Collaborative who undertake all out of hours for us. Registrars can gain out of hours experience by organising sessions directly with the Collaborative.

Computers

The practice is fully computerised and uses Emis PCS (SystmOne from 24 November 2011) system for prescribing, consulting, appointments and audits etc. We are connected to the NHS net and have a practice website for patients. E-mail is available to you. All accounting is computerised and the practice has an internal intranet system to access all clinical and organisation protocols.

Commitment to Quality

Mosborough Health Centre achieved the `Commitment to Quality´ award in July 2004. There are 42 standards to be achieved in; practice management and administration, team development and clinical effectiveness. These standards represent good practice and are based on a philosophy of continual review in practice. They are designed to improve; quality, service delivery, communications and team building. We also achieved high point scores in the Quality and Outcomes Framework. We are now working to CQC.

The GP Registrar

You will be a valued member of our team. You will have your own room with a computer and internet access. We have a well-stocked library. There is an induction period over the first 2 weeks to spend time with the whole practice team and attached staff in the PHCT. Each day differs but there is always Thursday afternoon free for the VTS half-day release scheme and an additional half day for private study. Initially you will have 20 minute appointments aiming to reduce gradually to 10 minute appointments as you feel able.

The trainers, Dr Kellock and Dr Clark will primarily oversee your education and training, but all the partners, manager and nurses will take part. There are weekly tutorials. Joint surgeries and videoing start early on, and although it sounds daunting, they are a great training tool. Regular debriefs occur after surgeries with your trainer, and the other partners in their absence.

Medical Students

We have a long tradition of training medical students, both 3a and 3b over the past 20+ years at the practice. You will also be able to do some teaching of your own in joint surgeries/visits/debriefs/ with them during your time with us
