The Practice

We are a large inner city GMS practice situated in the South East of Sheffield. We have a main surgery on Handsworth Road and a smaller branch surgery on Fitzalan Road, situated only ½ mile apart. The list size is approximately 8,800, with many generations of families registered. Around 15% of our practice population is from ethnic minorities.

We are fully computerised and are working towards becoming a paper light practice. The clinical system is SystmOne (TPP) and we are also scanning all paperwork on to the system for ease of day to day working.

Our out of hours is covered by the GP Collaborative.

Appointments

All GPs offer booked 10 minutes appointments that are available for up to 6 months in advance. We also offer a daily triage session.

Clinics

All Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Phlebotomy, Pharmacist, Counsellor, IAPT Workers, Diabetic Nurse, Midwife and Physio are pre booked appointments.

Training

There is an initial induction period of 2 weeks during which the Registrar will meet and observe members of the health care team and familiarise themselves with working procedures.

We try to offer a period of training which is geared to each individual GPR. The working week will comprise of 7 clinical sessions and 3 educational sessions. The Registrar will be given the opportunity of shadowing either the Trainer or other GPs for an On Call session 1 day a week.

The Registrar will have their own room adjacent to the Trainer, which will have all the usual necessary medical and IT equipment. The computer will also provide access to the practice intranet containing protocols, guidelines, child health, significant events, audits and other weblinks, the clinical system and the internet. The Registrar's appointments will be at least 20 minutes apart, though this will reduce to 10 minutes over time and experience. Facilities for video recording and review are available. There is also access to a excellent well stocked library. The Registrar will be working at both sites to get a feel of both main and branch surgeries.

Refer to Form B and timetable available in the Downloads section opposite - please note the timetable is an example only and is subject to revision.
