GP Training Practices

There are currently 30 training practices attached to the Sheffield Scheme. It is hoped to increase this number over the next few years.

There are profiles available for all the practices, where you can read and download a copy of the practice information.

Profiles for training practices

The GPSTP office also has confidential practice assessment forms available, which give feedback from GPStRs who have trained at these practices.

Hospital Posts

From August 2009, the scheme has available 54 hospital training posts and 1 post split 50% in hospital/50% in GP. These posts are offered to all trainees according to their training requirements. Details of the individual posts are provided prior to a trainee starting in the post.

Obstetrics and Gynaecology

We have 8 posts in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Six of these are based at the New Jessop Wing at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and include 4 months working mainly in Gynaecology with experience in antenatal clinic.

The other 2 posts are based with Mr Ramsden, O&G Consultant at Rotherham District General Hospital. These posts are 6 months duration.

GUM

We have 2 x 4 months posts in GUM based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Paediatrics

We have 6 posts based at the Sheffield Children's Hospital. These posts are for 4 months, joining the SHO rotation on the wards at the SCH. Attendance of relevant outpatients will be part of this post.

We also have 3 posts in the Emergency Department at the Sheffield Children's Hospital working as part of a rota with other SHOs in the department. These are 4 months in duration, changing to 6 months duration from August 2010.

Psychiatry

We have 3 community based posts, one in the South West sector and 2 in North West sector, fitting into the general city wide Psychiatric on-call rotation. Two of these are for 6 months, the third is 4 months.

General Medicine

  • Elderly Medicine
    2 posts in Elderly Medicine, based in the Department of Health Care for the Elderly at the Northern General Hospital for 4 months.

    One post in Elderly Medicine based in the Department of Health Care for the Elderly at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital for 4 months.
  • Respiratory Medicine
    We have one post in Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, participating in the general medical rotation.

    We have 2 posts in Respiratory Medicine at the Northern General Hospital for 4 months.
  • Geriatrics (AICS) and General Medicine
    We have one post for 4 months in the Dept of Health Care for the Elderly based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

    We have one post based in Acute Medicine at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital for 4 months.
  • Gastroenterology
    We have 2 posts in Gastroenterology at the Northern General Hospital for 4 months.
  • Diabetes/Endocrinology
    We have one post in Diabetics/Endocrinology at the Northern General Hospital for 4 months.
  • Palliative Care
    We have one post based at St Lukes Hospice and one based at the Northern General Hospital for 4 months.

    We have on post based 50%/week at St Lukes Hospice in Sheffield and 50%/week in GP for 6 months.
  • A&E
    We have 6 posts which are part of the Accident & Emergency rotation based at the Northern General Hospital for 4 months and a further post for 6 months.
  • Rheumatology
    We have one post in Rheumatology based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital for 4 months.
  • Infectious Diseases
    We have one post in ID based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital for 4 months.
  • Oncology
    We have one post in Oncology based at Weston Park Hospital for 4 months.
  • Haematology
    We have one post in Haematology based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital for 4 months.
  • Dermatology
    We have one post in Dermatology based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital for 4 months.
  • Spinal Injuries/Rehabilitation Medicine
    We have 2 posts in Spinal Injuries/Rehabilitation at the Northern General Hospital for 4 months.
  • Trauma and Orthopaedics
    We have 2 posts in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Northern General Hospital for 4 months.
