Day Release VTS Training Sessions

The Day Release Training Sessions are held every Thursday usually in Don Valley House, sessions for GPStRs in hospital posts start at 9.00am and finish at 5.00pm. Registrars are expected to attend regularly (a minimum attendance of 80%, including holidays) as this is an essential component of their training.

For registrars in hospital posts the day release training provides a vital link with general practice during the hospital years. GPStRs in hospital placements must apply for study leave formally in advance of starting their placement to ensure they can attend regularly.

GPStRs in GP placements attend half day sessions from 2.00pm. All sessions must be attended, this will be discussed with your trainer prior to your placement.

NOTE - the GPSTP training sessions are only available to trainees on the Sheffield GP Speciality training programme

Aims and Objectives of the Day Release

The groups have two aims - personal learning and support. They are organised by the registrars with the help of group leaders in deciding what areas of learning they wish to cover. The groups are led by Programme Directors who are GPs, the first 4 & 6 month GP group is also co-led by a tutor counsellor with experience in medical education.

The Scheme hopes to foster a self-aware, open approach to new methods and knowledge, using reading, reason and discussion as tools.
