Top tips to save money...

  • Look out for student discounts – many shops offer 10% or even 20% off for students, just make sure you have your University of Sheffield 'Ucard' with you.
  • Take advantage of cheaper student nights – prices for club nights and events at the Students' Union are often cheaper than other bars in the City Centre.
  • Set up bills on direct debit – save money on monthly payments and pay for things like insurance all in one go to save even more.
  • Attend trainee nights at hair salons – if you can't afford that much needed haircut, attend a trainee evening. Most of the large hair salons in the city run them with high calibre junior stylists, all under strict supervision.
  • Get a part-time job – there are lots of part-time jobs available in the city. Visit the Student Jobshop at Sheffield Students' Union for help and vacancies.
  • Budget – We know it's boring, but it's the only way to ensure you still have money for treats and nights out when you want them! Understand how much you need for essentials each month to make sure you don't overspend.

  • Last Laugh Comedy Club at Sheffield Students' Union – Normally only a fiver to attend, will definitely brighten up your Sunday night...
  • Film Unit Sheffield Students' Union cinema – the Film Unit committee shows both 'golden oldies' and current blockbusters throughout the year. Prices start from as little as 50p so get yourself down there and don't forget the popcorn!

  • Millenium Galleries - The Millennium Galleries offer a mix of blockbuster exhibitions plus traditional and contemporary examples of Sheffield's craftsmanship, visual arts and design. With four individual galleries under one roof, there are all sorts of wonderful things to see and enjoy.
  • Continental Market/Food Festival – Sheffield holds plays host to many wonderful markets. This is a great place to try FREE bread, olives, cheese and meat samples. Check out the Sheffield City Council website for information on when these are in town.
