Who are the Student Officers?

The student officers are eight students, elected by the whole student population, who work full time at the Students' Union for a year.

I WANT CHANGE!

About Students' Union Council

Students' Union Council is the main decision making body in the Students' Union. It has the power to make decisions about Students' Union policy, to put proposals to referenda (to be voted on by all students), and to oversee the work of, and mandate, the Student Officers.

There are 46 departmental councillors, 8 representative councillors and 8 student officers that make up the members of Students' Union Council. The departmental and representative councillors are elected in October of each academic year. See the results of the 2012 election here, and find out who your departmental and representative councillors are here.

Students' Union Council meets every other Thursday at 5:15pm in the Tapestry Room, Firth Court. All students are welcome to attend council (but you cannot vote and may only speak with the Chair's permission). Meetings are ended promptly at 7.45pm. For a list of Council dates 2012-13 click here.

Councillors also attend a Council Forum on the weeks when Students' Union Council does not meet formally. These take place between 5 and 6pm, also on Thursday evenings, in the Students' Union. These forums help to prepare councillors for their meetings and provide training on how best to represent students.
