The student officers are eight students, elected by the whole student population, who work full time at the Students' Union for a year.

Hi guys, I'm the sociological studies councillor for the year and this page is to let you know what we've been doing and how council is representing you. Since becoming elected I have attended council meetings that have seen us pass a number of important pieces of legislation and we have a number of future referendums that will trigger some exciting debates and give students the power to decide what we promote at their union. Council also aims to make the officers accountable to you and I aim to make sure our officers are doing their job to the best of their ability.
As well as being Sociology councillor I represent the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University Senate where the Vice-Chancellor gives his progress report so I am able to see how our union is being run on multiple levels and keep my finger on the pulse of the issues that matter to students.
As the sociology councillor for 2011/2012 I consider it important to vote how I feel my department would be best represented. The sociology department has a strong postgrad Ph.D element and high female membership, I consider it important to support policies that benefit these groups but also consider important to fight for the interest of the general student populous.
- Following the accident outside Bar One Christmas day we are waiting until next year to begin discussions on how such future incidents can be prevented. I aim to push for the most sensible and effective solution, as the safety of our students is a prime concern.
- As a union employee I am drawing up proposals for an anonymous email address for concerns so members of union staff feel more closely connected to council and officers.
