The student officers are eight students, elected by the whole student population, who work full time at the Students' Union for a year.

Hello! გამარჯობა! Ciao! Salut! Γειά! Привет! 你好! !سلام Hola! Jambo! Hallo! नमस्ते! Здраве! !سلام ! مرحبا Selamat!
Thank you for taking some time to have a look at my mini-page. I'm Nina and I'm your International Students' Councillor. My role is to represent you, your views and ideas on the Students' Union Council.
Council is the highest decision making body in the Students' Union. Once every two weeks, all Councillors (Departmental and Representative) meet to discuss and vote on policies that affect the entire student body here at the University of Sheffield. My job is to make sure that in every discussion and every vote, your views are taken into consideration. You can find out more about Council and how to get involved here.
I am passionate about international students' issues and have undertaken this year to work closely with the International Students' Officer, Krissy and the International Students' Committee to make our Union an even better place for you!
Here are some links that you may find useful:
National Societies: Want to get to know more people from your home country? Or discover a new culture? Join a national society! There are lots to choose from and if there isn't a national society to represent you, you might want to think about establishing one.
International Students' Committee: The largest committee in the Students' Union, the ISC puts on some of the biggest cultural events in the UK bringing thousands of people together. Keep on track for great events via facebook.
Student Advice Centre: The Students' Advice Centre has trained advisors who are on hand to help you through most difficulties that you will come across as a student. From academic, to immigration, to safety; they know how to help and their services are free of charge.
If you're staying in Sheffield this Christmas, there's no need to feel lonely and bored because we have lots of fun filled activites planned for you. You can join this group on facebook to keep you posted on the activites for international students running from December through to January.
The Students' Union web page for new international students' can also be found here, for some tips and guidance.
If you're having a hard time with your academic department you can always consult with your respective academic councillor. You can find them here. Remember that we have all been elected by you and for you, so please do not hesitate to get in touch!
Furhtermore if you have an idea or want to propose change, you can bring it to Forum. Find more about Ideas Forum and get involved here.
Or, you can contact me on my email above, or via facebook.
One of my priorities this year is to work on bringing the Students' Union closer to you. I would be extremely grateful if you could email me any feedback that you may have with regards to your opinion of Students' Union outlets and what You want to see more of in the Students' Union. No remark or comment is little.
If you have had a positive experience with the Students' Union, let me know so I can ensure that it happens more often.
If you have had a negative experience with the Students' Union, let me know and I'll make sure that someone's working towards changing that.
I am also currently trying to negotiate the EU student re-sits policy with the University. Currently, EU students are not given the opportunity to re-sit any examinations in their home countries. Having to come back to the UK in August for re-sits could be a very frustrating and costly experience. If you are an EU student who has experienced this, please get in touch. The more evidence we have of how this policy negatively reflects on you, the greater is the likelyhood of the University working with us to change it.
I am keen to work on further issues that may be affecting you as a student, which I may not yet have spotted, so do keep me posted.
I hope you have found this page helpful and look forward on hearing from you!

Hi LGBTers!
I'm Jonathan and my job is to represent the views of all LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Trans) students here at the University of Sheffield at Union Council. My election manifesto stated that I would ensure:
Gender Neutral Toilets
The Union now has a set of Gender Neutral Toilets! They can be found on the toilet corridor next to Foundry so can be accessed on both club nights and from the auditorium. Look for the 'Gender Neutral Toilets' sign on the door. To find out more details, look at the page on our website
School Outreach
The LGBT Committee are now on the steering committee of the city-wide project called the Sheffield Schools LGBT Charter. This is a fantastic way of getting local schools to teach PSHE lessons on LGBT issues and recognising the schools' efforts for promoting LGBT wellbeing. If you want to see a summary of the Charter, click here and for the full details, click here.

As a first year PhD student in the Department of Town & Regional Planning I'm relatively new to being a PGR student. However I'm less new to Students' Union Council, having represented Town & Regional Planning students as Departmental Councillor for the past two years. My perspective, only strengthened by teaching on two modules this semester, is that PGR students occupy a unique position; whilst we may be registered as students of the university many of us have teaching duties that change our relationship with students somewhat. With the new university fees structure hitting next year this academic year is also going to see plenty of debate around the issue of postgraduate funding and support.
As part of my role on Council I'm also the Joint-Chair of the newly revitalised PG Committee, along with Tom Dougall, the PGT Councillor (See Below) and I also attend University Senate meetings. I'm part of Elections Committee, which decides how the forthcoming Officer Elections in March 2012 will be run and will once again be acting as a Returning Officer for these elections, ensuring that candidates do not break the rules. In the new year I will also be sitting on a Select Committe to consider Postgraduate representation in the Union so if you have any ideas please do email me at the above address.

There are over 7000 post-graduate taught students at the University of Sheffield making up over 25% of the student body. New masters students can have one of the toughest times adjusting to the new environment for the one year and so suggest you get involved with PROGRESS (The post-graduate society).
This year could see one of the biggest changes for future post-graduate education with the fees due to rise and likely to reach the £9000 mark and with no government loan system in place, post-graduate education is set to be restricted to the wealthy.
With the increase in fees I hope to get more information available to future applicants about funding and where and when they should be applying for their funding.
The Next PG Committee is Monday 5th December @ The Gallery Presentation. All are welcome to sit in, and raise anything you would like to discuss!

Hello Ladies,
I'm Amy and I am your Women's Councillor 2011/12. It is my role to represent the diverse views and interests of women students to Union Council throughout the year. I am passionate about women's issues and always interested to hear your views so feel free to let me know any ideas or concerns you have.
If you want to contact me you can email me on the Women's Councillor address or add me on facebook - 'SheffieldUnion WomensCouncillor'. As well as this you are always welcome to come along to Women's Committee meetings - every Wednesday at 4pm in the Union. Women's Committee is a great way to meet new people as well as providing a safe, relaxed space to voice your opinions and organise campaigns around women's issues/ feminism
At the moment I am looking in to gauging opinion/ hear students' ideas on:
Pornographic magazines on sale in our Union Shop and how to go about challenging attitudes and behaviours that encourage and endorse the objectification and abuse of women?
I am also hoping to continue to raise awareness about the disproportionate impact of the rise in tuition fees on women students. I am particularly concerned about the number of female students that may turn to the work in the sex industry in order to fund their studies.
I would love to hear your views on these things so please do get in touch!
