Students' Union & Sport

Overview: To make Sport a highly recognisable and established aspect of the Students' Union.

Reason: Previously Sport has had a confused position within the University Of Sheffield to the eye of the student and with the new Sport Sheffield brand and the role of the Students' Union as partners with the old Usport it presents a perfect opportunity to work together to promote Sport throughout the Students' Union.

Update on this objective

After a good start to the year the sports committee are hard at work to continue to build on this success. In the past week we will have put on a successful fundraiser at ROAR and charity Question of Sport evening in Bar One.
Already hard at work creating ties with RAG, they were the key leaders on the Pink and Blue night at ROAR (16.11.2011)
Organised the Spinnathon to go alongside the Ragathon and raised over £400 towards the total target of £1000. Along with the up coming Question of Sport and Pink and Blue evenings in November.
Already putting a marketing plan together with the marketing team and Hallam
Arranged plans to work with local schools through the Discover US programme at the University Of Sheffield. Planning on giving a couple of hundred free tickets to these schools in an attempt to get the local community interested in Varsity.
Collected all the contacts of the society sports reps and given them to the head of Intra Mural

Quality Assurance

Overview: To ensure Sports offer value for money for the opportunities that it provides to the entire sporting community.

Reason: To play sport at University Of Sheffield costs a lot of money, therefore it is vital we give our clubs as much training as possible to provide the things that students care most about. The opportunity to play sport and the quality of service.

Update on this objective

Aided in the organisation of the training day at Bramwell Lane at the start of term and helped in the organisation of Strength and Conditioning workshops through the S10 gym for committee members to attend. Also I’ve arranged a disability day for the 5th December to aid clubs in their inclusivity
Worked on the Sport Sheffield continuum, to ensure the continuation of the Black and Gold community throughout sport and in particular within the clubs.

Sport Sheffield

Overview: To continue the implementation of the Sports Strategy.

Reason: With the 2012 fee rise the expectation of students is higher than ever. Therefore Sport Sheffield and its successful launch is critical to sporting students experience at University.

Update on this objective

Helped promote launch of the PING project and arranged for the establishment of a table tennis table facility twice a week
I have attended various meetings with the senior management team of Sport Sheffield and was involved in the recruitment of a new member of the team
Spent more time already with line managers than previous officers.
Helped run the first road show in October
In organising the Sports Fair I ensured that all areas had equal opportunity to showcase their offerings.
