Hi I'm Tom and I'm the Activities Officer. I studied Zoology and love performing and creative events management! There will be so many different activities and events that take place in and around your Students' Union throughout the year and you can take part through societies, give it a go, and in your student communities. Both myself and the activities staff want to make sure that you feel comfortable to pursue your passions, discover new hobbies and enjoy your own unique experience whilst at the University of Sheffield, so if you have any questions, queries, problems or thoughts, come and find us in the Activities & Sports Zone, as we will be more than happy to help! :)
Rooms and Space
As society activity is always on the increases so is the demand for space! I’m looking into finding more spaces for societies both around the University and in the local community. I hope to create a One-Stop-Shop booking system in the Union where societies can go to book a room anywhere in the University or Union. This will be particularly important when the new building re-opens and there are lots of new spaces which societies can use!
A Digitally Innovative Union
I want to create a Society Search Engine so that students can find societies with which they share similar interests! I’m also looking into society online finance systems so that society committee members can view their accounts at all times! As well as this I hope to create a more accessible, dynamic and interactive offer from the Activities and Sports Zone Online with ideas such as video guides to answer society FAQ’s and a society video competition!
Collaboration and Communication
I plan on facilitating skill swapping workshops and informative forums in addition to society training in which societies can share skills and experiences which will benefit both their personal and society development. I also want to integrate societies into a community strategy, let’s be proud and showcase all the amazing things that societies do!
