Who are the Student Officers?

The student officers are eight students, elected by the whole student population, who work full time at the Students' Union for a year.

Meetings

Meetings Intro

Course Reps are invited to attend a variety of meetings within their department and faculty which is your opportunity to discuss your education. You will share with staff the views of the students who you represent, giving you a chance to address any problems that students have raised with you informally with staff.

What issues might come up?

  • Assessment & feedback: Lack of prompt / detailed feedback on work.
  • Personal tutor support: Students not being assigned a personal tutor, not being able to meet with their tutor or not knowing who their tutor is.
  • Resources: Teaching areas or library / I.T may not meet students' needs.
  • Anonymous marking: If work is not marked anonymously then it could be marked unfairly due to predetermined decisions or discrimination.
  • Teaching methods: Unhelpful lecturers, lack of handouts.
  • Module Registration: Difficulty to get onto preferred modules, poor guidance for students in choosing their modules.

Meeting Report

It is vital that after every meeting you attend that you submit a quick Meeting summary across to the Students' about what happened. This allows the Students' Union to keep track of any issues across the institution and give you as relevant support as possible, as well us allowing us to shout about all your great work. This is a condition of HEAR recognition from 2013/14 so make sure you submit a short summary of what happened at each meeting.
