Staying Up? Keep It Down!

'Staying Up? Keep it Down!' is a campaign run jointly by the University and your Student's Union, which reminds you about being a lovely Sheffield resident and not a nightmare neighbour!

Noise can annoy, particularly at night, which is why we'd like to remind you that if you're staying up late, please keep your noise down. The Sheffield community is made up of people from all walks of life but they all need their sleep – even students!

Top Tips

  • From 11pm-7am, make sure your TV & music volume is low or use headphones
  • Close windows and doors at night so noise doesn't carry
  • Position speakers away from your adjoining wall
  • Let your neighbours know if you're going to have a party
  • When heading home from a night out, be quiet and considerate to those sleeping (& use green routes where possible)

If You're Disturbed By Noise

If you're disturbed by noise politely ask those responsible to keep it down. If they don't listen or it gets worse...

  • University Accommodation
    Contact your duty Residential Mentor
    Call Residences Security on 0114 222 4075
  • Managed Apartments
    Contact your reception
  • A Student House
Call the University of Sheffield Emergency Control Room on 0114 222 4085
Call 101, the 24hour police anti-social behaviour line when it's not as urgent as 999.

Remember - noise works both ways. You don't want to be kept up late when you've got an exam or coursework deadline approaching. Be considerate to those around you when you're staying up and they'll be considerate to you!

I've lived in Broomhill all my life and students have been here since I can remember but there a lot more of them nowadays. Often, noise keeps me awake at night and all the shouting can be a bit scary, so I worry about my health. Resident
"I've got several essays to work on, and lots of early morning seminars this term - noise doesn't help!" Student
"I've got two young children who need their sleep. When loud people wake them up late at night they're too tired to concentrate at school" Parent
