Thanks to everyone who filled in a postcard after an exam. We started off targeting exams for students in the departments of Philosophy, Chemistry, Politics and Mechanical Engineering as we know students are particularly unhappy with the exam feedback they receive in those departments. However we found students from other departments who had finished their exam at the same time were really keen to sign up to the postcard petition too so we’ve got signed postcards from students right across the University.
Some students from departments who have very good exam feedback systems such as Geography and Molecular Biology and Biotechnology wanted to sign the petition to make a stand against how unfair it is that other students get nothing. Why should there be so much variation across the University?
This is really exciting so thank you if you took part! What’s next then? I’ll be contacting the Heads of Departments who had students sign the petition as well as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Learning and Teaching Professor Paul White and the Vice-Chancellor Professor Keith Burnett to let them know how successful the campaign was. Students do very strongly feel that they should be entitled to good quality and helpful exam feedback.
I will also be delivering the postcards to the Vice- Chancellor so he can see for himself how many students took part.
Keep your eye on these web pages for more information about what the Vice- Chancellor and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor have to say on the issue and what action they will be taking as a result of the postcard petition.
