Crookesmoor

When there is so much going on in the Student’s Union and in town, it’s easy to forget to explore your local neighbourhood. There are loads of places to eat, visit, or generally relax in the Crookesmoor and Commonside area that are definitely worth paying a visit. Firstly, on Commonside, there are some great restaurants, takeaways, and cafes to sample. In particular, a small and cosy Indian restaurant and takeaway, serves great quality food in generous portions and is brilliant value for cash strapped students; it’s ‘bring your own beer’, so it’s easy to get a meal in with a couple of sides for well under a tenner. There are also plenty of traditional local pubs in the area that are perfect for a spur of the moment pint without having to stray far from your doorstep. On the rare sunny Sheffield days, there are a few beautiful parks where you can kick back and watch the world go by. SA

Crookesmoor is home to several traditional pubs or some with a more contemporary take. Between the Students' Union and the heart of Crookesmoor is Crookes Valley park. In the summer it’s a great place to relax since it never gets quite as busy as Weston Park, which is nearer to the Students’ Union, and it has the added bonus of having a pub right in the middle. It’s also a popular jogging spot for the local fitness fanatics, which is convenient as it’s placed just behind the University sports centre, Sport Sheffield. SB
