Crookes

Crookes, home-suburb of the eponymous indie-rock band, contains arguably the largest proportion of student housing in the whole of Sheffield, a village stuffed full of useful amenities and shops, as well as a grand selection of excellent pubs. Crookes has its own social club, which often plays host to numerous local bands trying to take their first steps in that most competitive of industries – keep an eye out for the big names of the future. There is also a gym and health club right on your doorstep; combined with the infamous hills of Sheffield, there’s no excuse for not keeping in shape. MS

For food shopping there are various supermarkets, fresh food shops and discount stores to make sure you get whatever you fancy, or alternatively one of the bus services that runs through Crookes also goes to two big supermarkets. If you don't fancy cooking, there is a generous supply of cafes, restaurants and takeaways whatever your favourite cuisine. FG
