Mediation
Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) are effective ways of resolving civil law disputes without the need to go to court. In mediation, the mediator is an independent third party who remains neutral throughout the process. The role of the Student Advice Centre is to represent students’ interests. We do not offer a mediation service.
University registered properties
The University offers a mediation service between landlords and tenants in University registered properties. For further information Email propertywithUS@sheffield.ac.uk or phone 0114 222 6058/6042.
Deposits covered by tenancy deposit protection
All three government authorised deposit schemes offer free ADR services. For further information click here.
Small claims track county court cases
If you are involved in a County Court Small Claims track case you might be referred to the Small Claims Mediation Service. If this happens you will be offered a free mediation appointment. This can be a telephone appointment. If both sides consent to mediation and an agreement is reached, the agreement is legally binding so there is no need for a court hearing.
