Gas safe register

It is a legal requirement for anyone carrying out domestic or commercial gas work to be registered and comply with the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) 1998 regulations.

The Gas Safe Register is the registration body appointed by the Health and Safety Executive. The Gas Safe Register is operated by CAPITA.  Prior to 1 April 2009, gas safety work was overseen by CORGI. The Gas Safe Register aims to -

  • protect people from dangerous gas work
  • make sure that registered engineers are suitably qualified and safe to work with gas
  • ensure that standards and regulations are being met and check the quality of work
  • work in partnership with engineers, the industry and consumers to improve gas safety.

Always check that engineers carrying out gas work are registered. They should always carry an ID card with a photograph and a unique registration number. Remember that since 1 April 2009, this should be a Gas Safe Registered ID card, not a CORGI registration card. For more information or to check if an engineer is registered, please telephone 08004085500 or visit http://www.gassaferegister.co.uk.
