Exam failure and re-sits for postgraduate taught students
Module failure
- If you fail any module, including the dissertation, you might not be recommended for the Master’s or Diploma. In that case, the regulations allow you one re-sit examination only, in order to try to pass. If you have failed the dissertation, you may submit a revised one, on one occasion only
- If you are successful in your re-sit examination, you will be awarded a bare pass for the module or dissertation
- If you get a lower grade in the re-sit examination, then the original higher fail grade will be awarded
Master's degree
Credits required
To pass an examination for a Master’s degree, you need to get 180 credits. If you get not less than 165 credits, you may be awarded a Master’s, provided you have an average grade of not less than 50, with no single grade less than 40. The dissertation grade counts towards the average grade.
Diploma
Credits required
If you get 120 credits, you will eligible for the award of a postgraduate diploma, if your programme regulations make provision for this. If you get at least 105 credits, you may be awarded a postgraduate Diploma, provided you have an average grade of not less than 50 and no single grade of less than 40. If you are registered for a Master's programme, the dissertation grade does not count towards the average grade in this case.
Certificate
Credits required
If you get 60 credits from your course, excluding the dissertation, you are eligible for the award of a postgraduate certificate.
