Events Calendar & Planner... A How To Guide

The specially designed 'Events Calendar & Planner' allows you to see all the activities and events we have to offer, create your own editable personal timetable and buy tickets. In order to get you started, we've put together a little guide to help you navigate through our events and activities just in case you get stuck.

Categories

By using the 'Filter by Category' dropdown, you can easily filter events and activities by its general category. All categories are on by default, but what you can do is hide catgeories from view that you are not interested in.

To do this, simply hover over the 'please select' area next to the 'Filter by Category' heading and turn on/off the categories you want by clicking the category name. At any time you can reset your choice by selecting 'All' or 'None' from the dropdown.

Events Calendar & Planner Views

This is a neat little trick. The default view for displaying all events and activities is 'Timeline' which allows you to scroll through days on a week-by-week view, but say you wanted to view all a day's events in one long list. That would be useful at times, right?

Well, just click the 'List' button located on the right-hand side of the Events Calendar & Planner and you'll be taken to the 'List' view. Here you can scroll through events and jump to any day you want using the date picker at the top of the view. To jump back, click the 'Timeline' button.

Creating Your Own Personal Planner

It's all well and good that you can scroll through the huge amount of events and activities taking place throughout the Students' Union, but what if you want to create your own personal programme of events and activities to attend and either print them this off or add them to your University Calendar? Don't worry, we have this covered!

To start and maintain your own planner, you must be logged in to our website using either your University or your Facebook username and password and it will prompt you to do so if you aren't logged in the first time you add an event. You can also register for an account if you have neither a University or Facebook account.

Add an Event...

If you come across an event you'd like to add to your own personal planner, highlight over the event (in the 'Timeline' view) and a small + button will appear. By clicking this you will add this to the 'My Events' planner and you should see it appear.

Remove an Event...

If you want to remove an event from 'My Events' highlight over it and click the X button.

To add or remove an event in the 'List' view, just click the small + button next to the event to add it to your planner, or, again, the small X button to remove it.

Once you start adding more and more events you might find that a few overlap or clash with each other. If this happens, you will be prompted with a few options to either delete one of the clashing events, or ignore the clash. Good stuff.

You can revisit your planner at anytime by logging back into our website and visiting the Events Calendar & Planner.

Print or Export to Calendar...

You'll reach a stage where you've added all you can possibly add and you'll want to print off your planner for the week or add it to your University calendar to keep track online... or both!

To do either, just click the 'iCal / Google Calendar' button or the 'Print My Planner' button to the right-hand side of our own planner.

If you click the 'iCal / Google Calendar' button, it will download your planner as an importable calendar file. To add it to your University calendar, log in and visit your calendar online and click the 'Add' link under 'Other calendars' on the left-hand side of the page, and click 'Import calendar'. Select the file you just exported from the planner and import it to your University calendar. Easier than you thought, right?

Add Your Own Event

Say for example you needed to block out some time to visit our bank Santander, pop into town to get a few things, or meet a lecturer, you can add your own event that will act just as an event or activity will and notify you of any clashes if you add an event or activity that's taking place at the same time.

To do this, just click the 'Add My Own Event' button to the right-hand side of our own planner and by filling out the required fields you can block out time so you can keep track of everything that's going on! Pretty smart! You can also delete that event just as you would any other event in case things change.
