Description

This union notes that:

·         Despite the defeat of the governments HE white paper most of the attacks outlines there are being made implemented by university managements

·         A protest march will be taking place in London on the 7^th of March to coincide with the NUS' lobby of parliament.

·         The National Union of Students has called a week of action from the 12^th to the 16^th of March

·         There have also been calls by NCAFC for a national student walkout

·         There is also the strong potential for more strike action over public sector pensions, including the UCU.

This union resolves (in line with its current education policy):

·         That we will take part in the March 7^th march, publicising the event on campus and arranging transport for as many students as wish to take part.

·         That we will call for a national student walkout to coincide with this day of protest.

·         That we will support, promote and take part in the NUS' week of action, arranging events in Sheffield.

·         That we will work towards the building of a united movement of students and workers against ConDem austerity

·         That this union will stand in solidarity with lectures and support staff taking part in any upcoming UCU strikes, and will urge Sheffield University students to boycott lectures on those days in a public display of our recognition that in order to maintain excellent academic standards this university must appropriately look after its staff.
