Students from the University of Sheffield were joined by Councillor Paul Scriven last week to hand over a total of £117,000 to a number of local charities.
Four student representatives, from the Raising and Giving Society (RAG), handed over the funds, which were raised through a variety of activities over the course of the year, including the Wipeout Charity Challenge, BUMMIT and the annual Spiderwalk. This year RAG decided to specifically raise money for local charities and make a real difference to the local people of Sheffield.
Councillor Paul Scriven said: "I'm delighted to be here today to celebrate and congratulate what students contribute to this city. In addition to helping people dream bigger dreams, we are helping them to achieve their dreams. These charities are not able to achieve the fantastic work they do without student's support. Despite what the headlines can sometimes say, students do a fantastic job in this city and I want to say thank you to them on behalf of all 530,000 Sheffielders."
