A new music festival organised by volunteers from the University of Sheffield Students' Union has raised over £800 for leading children's charity Safe@Last.
Contours Festival took place on June 6 at four venues in the heart of Sheffield - the Raynor Lounge in The University of Sheffield's Students' Union building, the University Arms, the Harley, and DQ nightclub. All profits raised from ticket sales, a donation from sales of a Contours Festival Ale and money raised from a charity raffle run by Sheffield Raising and Giving (RAG) contributed to the grand total of £806.
Mike McQuillan, Assistant Events Manager at Sheffield University Students' Union, said: "This is Contours Festival's first year and we are delighted with its success. Every aspect of the festival has been put together by volunteers, with myself and other Students' Union staff offering support and guidance to the team".
"The event itself ran very smoothly and we are already planning to make it bigger and better next year. We'd also like to thank this year's sponsors; Forge Media, Go Outdoors, Dynamic Reprographic, Ticketmart and Yorkshire Tee."
Lauren Simpson, Sheffield Students' Union Community Fundraiser said: "From a 'Raising and Giving' point of view, the festival was a huge success, bringing in a fantastic amount of money for a great local cause. It's brilliant when our students come to us with ideas like this and it's great to be able to support them in raising money for charity."
