Languages for All

Languages for All is the university-wide programme for 'non-specialist' linguists wishing to develop foreign language skills within their main degree programme.

The University of Sheffield encourages its students to learn new languages or enhance existing ones. It's part of getting that international experience, enhancing your degree and becoming a 'global graduate'.

As such the Languages for All programme is open to all students, subject to the agreement of your home department, and there is one of the widest range of language choices in any UK university, from beginners right through to advanced levels of learning.

Developing your foreign language competence will give you very useful skills both in your personal and professional life. A recent report from the Confederation of British Industry stressed that UK businesses competing in an increasingly globalised business environment place a high value on language skills. Many employers are seeking graduates who may not necessarily have advanced linguistic skills but who can communicate conversationally in the foreign language as this helps to 'break the ice' with potential business partners.
