Travel & Transport in Sheffield

If you don't quite fancy walking around the city or the occasionally mountainous hills that Sheffield is built on, there are plenty of other ways for you to get around the city. Several bus services run to and from and city centre and through the student areas, and many of them offer a special student price so make sure you always have your Ucard with you to try and snare a discount. Visiting Sheffield, you cannot fail to notice the trams that run through the city centre.

The University of Sheffield has its own tram stop, and so it is incredibly handy for getting into town, or for getting to the train station which also has its own stop for when you need to pop home or visit friends. The tram is also the easiest way to get to Meadowhall, it takes about twenty minutes and works out at good value if you buy a day ticket, as this can then also be used on certain bus services than run around Sheffield.

Hopefully you shouldn't ever have to visit the hospital for any reason other than to study, either way luckily there is a bus that runs between the Hallamshire and Northern General Hospitals which is free for students (remember your student card again). It should be said though, tackling the hills might not seem to great when you're at the bottom but there are often brilliant views from the top and it is great exercise so it is worth a go every now and then at least!
