Your voice can be pretty powerful when it's joined with 24,000 others.
One of our key roles is to be a strong student voice for the interests of students at the University of Sheffield. We work to make sure that your views are heard by the University, across the city and on national and international issues. We're also a member of the National Union of Students (NUS) so we can speak up for Sheffield students at a national level.
As a member, you also have a voice in running your Students' Union. All of our big decisions are made by the students you elect, or directly by you voting. Your 8 full-time Student Officers work throughout the year to represent you and support the work of our network of over 750 student representatives across the campus, which include several postgraduate positions.
This year your Education Officer, Jon Narcross, has a specific remit to manage the concerns and interest of Postgraduate students:

'I'm Jon, the Education Officer at Sheffield Students' Union. Here at Sheffield we’ve got over 10,000 postgraduates that make up a massive proportion of the student body. From taught students to researchers across all faculties, postgraduates are a pretty diverse group.
This year I'm going to be taking up key postgraduate issues such as fees and representation to make sure your voices are heard. Whether you are new to Sheffield or returning here for another year do get involved with everything the Students' Union has to offer and don't hesitate to get in touch if there are issues you want to raise.'

We always want to hear what you want to improve. You have the power to make change; within your Students' Union and beyond! There are lots of ways to get involved in running your Students' Union; your first opportunity being this October as a Students' Union Councillor. Stand to represent your department, or postgraduates as our Postgraduate Taught or Postgraduate Research Councillor.
