Activities & Sports

Studying at postgraduate level can be intensive, but making time for recreational activity will not only benefit your health but also give your mind some time to recharge. The range of activities and sports available through Sheffield Students' Union is extensive and offers something for everyone whether you're already immersed in an activity or looking to start a fresh one.

We have:

  • 250+ societies covering interests such as art, faith, music, technology, nationality, politics and science.
  • A 'Give it a Go' programme, offering you the chance to try new activities, develop skills and visit different destination at discounted rates.
  • Activities that help your local community with over 200 SheffieldVolunteering projects, and numerous RAG ('Raising and Giving') events raising money for charity throughout the year.
  • 47 sports clubs, and numerous other sport and fitness opportunities available through 'Sport Sheffield', whatever your level.
  • A media hub with two radio studios and iMacs for use by societies.
  • A music practice room.

Postgraduates also have their own society called Progress. They arrange opportunities for postgraduates to socialise, as well as offering emotional, social and academic support and advice. Look out for events such as bar and coffee meets, sporting fixtures, and outdoor activities throughout term, and their welcome activities during Intro Week.

If you live in University accommodation you'll be part of our Endcliffe, Ranmoor or City Community too. This means you'll gain access to exclusive events and activities centred around where you live including postgraduate student socials and trips held each month.

You can also get involved in running these activities when you arrive by becoming a member of your Community Development Committee.
