Hello! We're USLES!
We are a comedy/theatre group, performing shows to raise money for local charities. We have been running for five years now, putting on comedy shows and pantomimes (written by USLES members) every semester. We also regularly participate in university-run comedy festivals and showcases, as well as various joint projects (including shows at Edinburgh Fringe) with our Oxford and Cambridge counterparts, OULES and CULES.
We let anyone join our society, regardless of acting ability. If you want to have fun, meet some awesome people and be involved in creating great comedy, then you are perfectly qualified to join USLES. If being on stage is not for you (and we know it is not for everyone), we would still love to hear from you - we are always on the look out for writers, directors, backstage and tech crews.
As well as performing in the university, we also take our shows to local schools and charities. In December '11, for example, we performed 'Dick Whittington' in front of 200 children with disabilities and their parents/carers as part of a collaboration with Sheffield Parents and Carer's Forum. We plan to do the same thing this year with this semester's show, 'A Christmas Carol'.
If this description has captured your attention, then the best thing to do is either drop us an email or join our Facebook group. Everything you could ever want to know about USLES (and a great deal more) is posted on there. If being part of the shows is not for you, but you never-the-less love comedy and want to see us in action, look out for our advertisements around the union or watch out for more information on Twitter and Facebook.
We look forward to hearing from you!
