Hello, welcome to the United Nations Association! ☺One of the fastest expanding and most exciting societies in Sheffield!!

What is UNA?

The United Nations  Association - University of Sheffield (UNA-UOS) is part of the United Nations Association-UK (UNA-UK) youth/student section. The Sheffield branch is one of more than 40 spread across universities around the UK.

What is our aim?

UNA serves to support, advocate and critique the work of the United Nations in the student community through numerous events on campus, in the UK and abroad!

What do we do?

Our core activities are:

·         Model United Nations – MUN is an academic simulation of the UN carried out by millions if students around the world. In 2012/13 we will attending international conferences in Oxford, Stockholm, Aberyswyth, Reading, Hamburg, Athens, Rome, Genoa, New York, Turkey, London, Moscow, Paris, and many more places!! . Each of these conferences is world renowned and attracts a global audience of top students in many areas (inc. politics, IR etc.). They are a fantastic experience!! ALSO... this year we are holding our conference, on campus!! SheffMUN, as it is known, will be on the 10th - 11th of November. For more details contact us or join our Facebook and Twitter pages!

·         Debates & Talks – This year we are holding a series of guest lecture events on topics relating to the UN. See our Facebook page for more details! :)

·         Fundraising – Each year we hold several bake sales at the Students Union to raise hundreds of pounds for charitable causes such as the Oxfam East Africa Appeal.This year we will be working with other societies to arrange even bigger fundraisers!!

·         Trips – This year we are organising a trip to the UN in Geneva, which will take place during Summer 2013!

What can you do as a member of the society?

·         Everything mentioned above! Our society is fully inclusive and new members are welcome to take part in all activities from the moment they join!

What are the benefits of joining the society?

·         There are many!! You will gain a whole range of skills including leadership, negotiation, public speaking and more! You will also have many opportunities to network with people from all over the world and attend exciting international events and perform the role of a diplomat! Where else can you do that?!

How much does it cost to join?

·         Standard membership of the society is £10 a year for all students and this includes the membership fee and the MUN training costs.

·         You can also join our parent organisation, UNA-UK, for £10 a year. For this you will receive their respected quarterly magazine New World, invites to prestigious events with discounted or free entry, regular insider emails on careers opportunities and more and an offer of ½ price subscription for the famous Foreign Affairs journal.
