Vibrant, highly active social society that is supportive of its members, and the rock/alternative music scene both in Sheffield and in the wider world. We are an extremely welcoming and friendly society that is an extremely important organisation for both its members and the support of rock music and the people who enjoy celebrating it. Whether you're into metal, goth, punk, or rock - or any form of 'alternative' music whatsoever - you're sure to enjoy the society.
There are socials at least once a week, ranging from pub meets, meals, brewery trips, bar crawls, gigs, club nights (where members can have the opportunity to DJ!), etc. The society is primarily a social one, and we try to ensure that everyone can enjoy our activities; whatever music they're into. Our online forum is also very active, and is a good place to exchange links and plan small events.
The society also runs the University's Musician's Directory (located here) - a great resource for musicians of any instrument/genre to advertise themselves/form bands/jam with new friends. The society also hosts its own gigs and jam sessions around Sheffield on a regular basis!
How to contact: Through our forums online or by e-mailing us. There is also an informative Facebook Group you can join too! To keep up-to-date, we mail out weekly emails during term-time to our mailing list and to Facebook group members informing them of our own socials/events, and any local gigs we think they may be interested in, and if that's not enough to help peope keep up - there's also a calendar and news-feed on the website!
Cost: £3 - join either at the Activities Fair, or by talking to any Committee member at any social. Membership also entitles you to various discounts/offers all around Sheffield. For more details on that, and everything else you could ever want to know; see here for an FAQ
