We're here to make your time studying Psychology as enjoyable as we can, whether that's helping you let your hair down with our fantastic socials, making great friends in our sport teams or providing you with plenty of friendly faces to turn to if you need a hand!

In the academic year 2011-12 we ran a variety of socials, including:

*Freshers Social//White T-Shirt Bar Crawl//Christmas Party//End of Exams Social

*We also try to make sure we host a variety of alcohol-free socials throughout the year.  In 2012 we had a lecture from a guest speaker, Massimo Polidoro, Italian expert in investigating paranormal phenomena; a special screening of A Dangerous Method in association with Sheffield Union's own registered cinema; bowling & Sunday lunch and much more.

We also organised a 3-day trip to Paris and have plans for another trip abroad this year!

On top of this, every year we hold our *Psychology Ball*. The perfect opportunity to get on your Sunday best and have a three course meal, drinks and a good old fashioned boogie with all the fantastic people you'll get to know this year at a wonderful Sheffield venue.  In 2012 it was held at Kenwood Hall and was a great success!

With your help we plan to make this year the best yet, with so many more socials, volunteering opportunities (to boost your psychological CV!), the possibility of a trip abroad planned, and hopefully to see our sports teams in the finals! All we need is YOU! Whether you are a new face in the department or an old friend, we know you will see the benefits of being a member!  Membership is a steal at just £5 for one year, or £11 if you buy a 3-year ticket to make sure you're a member from day one through to graduation! Your membership card will NOT ONLY get you discounted tickets to all PsychoS socials, but ALSO various discounts outside of the department, like cheap food at restaurants and bars, and deals with our sponsors (Soyo, Basement and Cavendish)! So it's well worth the investment!

Basically we want you to have as much fun as is physically possible, so if you're game for a laugh then get involved!

                                                         AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

In 2012, the Psychology Society was nominated for Best Departmental Society at the Academic Awards, and Anna Summersall (Former President) received a nomination for Outstanding Contribution to Societies at the Activities Awards!

SHEFFIELD MIND & ACTION DUCHENNE

We're a caring bunch here at PsychoS, and a proportion of all the money we make over the year goes to a chosen charity.  For 2012/13, we have decided to adopt the following as our chosen charities:

Sheffield Mind
Registered charity number: 276108

Sheffield Mind offer advice, support and counselling for those suffering from Mental Health difficulties, their carers and families in the Sheffield area.

Action Duchenne
Registered charity  1101971 

Action Duchenne is the only national charity that exclusively funds research for a cure and promotes campaigns for better medical care for Duchenne and Becker Muscular Dystrophy. 

We will not only be donating money from ticket sales, but will also be offering everyone the opportunity to volunteer and join us in fundraising efforts for both charities.
