Promoting blood and organ donation at the University of Sheffield

Organise Sheffield is a branch of the national charity Organise set up in 2010.  We aim to promote, educate and campaign for greater willingness amongst students to donate blood and register to donate organs for transplant.

Currently 96% of the population believe in organ donation but only 33% are registered organ donors. That leaves a shocking 67% of people not on the organ donor register! With 3 people dying every day on the organ transplant waiting list, we can make a difference by encouraging as many people as possible to join the register.

Currently only 4% of the population are blood donors, we want to increase this through education, publicity and accessibility. This year we are on the lookout for teams, clubs or societies who want to sign up for a session and all give blood together, great publicity for you whilst saving a life!

The 2012/2013 Committee consist of a President, Vice-president/secretary, Treasurer, Publicity, 2 Blood reps, Blood events rep, 2 Organ reps and Organ events rep/inclusions officer and we meet once a month. We also have a lovely team of volunteers who help out at our events.

This term we have redesigned out logo and you will see us in shiny new t-shirts in the coming month. Look out for us at Lemon Fresh Summer Fete and Peace in the Park under the big red ORGANise banner. Ask us any burning question you many have about blood or organ donation or register to be an organ donor.

We are always on the lookout for more enthusiastic volunteers to help at the ever increasing number of events we have going on. We will provide training so don't be scared about not knowing anything about blood and organ donation.
