Natural History Society

Details

Last year's committee were awarded 'Best New Society' and 'Best Special Interest Society' at the Union Society Awards. As the new committee we aim to carry on their brilliant work and hopefully be just as successful. For the Uni year 2011-2012 we plan to hold:

Stimulating Science Talks- We regularly hold informal discussions, led by enthusiastic and engaging guest speakers. Usually held at the University Arms, this is a chance to exchange views on controversial topics or learn more about a subject in more detail from experts and enthusiasts, all over a drink!

Lit Club- An opportunity to read recent articles, or extracts from books on exciting topics, and discuss them with peers in an informal setting. For first years this is a great chance to improve your skills in reading journals.

Local Walks- We can give you the opportunity to explore the nature at your doorstep. Sheffield University is situated right next to the Peak District National Park so we hope to take regular trips up there to look at the wildlife. Even Endcliffe Park hosts some  interesting flora and fauna well worth a look.

Trips- We hope this year to take trips further afield, possible to zoos, aquariums and museums to give you the chance to see nature that is not as common in Sheffield! Society members will receive tickets at a discounted price.
