Sheffield Marrow is a part of the national student-run outreach project of the Anthony Nolan Trust. Our main objective is to recruit potential donors to the bone marrow register and we also fundraise for the trust.
Would you like to get involved in our activities?
Sheffield Marrow is open for all students to join, and depending on how involved you want to be you can join in at different levels:
Over the last couple of years we have run pubcrawls around Sheffield which have raised lots of money and have been great social events as well.
This year we are running a fun run in the last weekend of October and are looking for volunteers to help run the event.
Are there any other ways I can help out?
YES! We hold regular sign up clinics in both the students union and halls of residence. Look out for these throughout the year and please come along. Signing up takes less than 15 minutes and all that is required is a sample of saliva. Last December a student we signed up was found as a match for a patient and went down to London for the day to donate. He found the process really simple and virtually pain free. A couple of weeks ago he heard that the patient is now doing well following the bone marrow transplant. So for just 15 minutes of your day you could potentially save someone’s life!
Online sign up for the fun run should be live soon so if you’re a budding runner, or just like a walk in the park, and fancy raising money for a good cause while you do it join our mailing list and look out for updates soon!
If any of the stuff above interests you or you’d just like to find out a bit more about what we do email marrow@sheffield.ac.uk and we’ll get back to you!
