Committee members are the core team of people who run a society or committee. You lead, you decide, you organise, you budget, you publicise, you stress (occasionally), you have fun (always), and best of all you make Sheffield Students' Union 'number one' in the UK.
What's more, as a committee member you may also be able to get your role recognised in the extra-curricular section of your HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Report) so that prospective employers can see evidence of how you've made the most of your university experience and see the invaluable skills and attributes you've gained through running a society or committee. (Please note that only undergraduate students who registered from September 2012 onwards are eligible for a HEAR).
You can find out more about all of the Students' Union opportunities which can be verified for HEAR Section 6.1 on the Students' Union HEAR Webpage.
You can also use the Verifiable Activities Search on the University HEAR website to find:
Almost all societies and committees hold AGMs (Annual General Meetings) during AGM Fortnight: the next AGM Fortnight will be Monday 24 March - Friday 4 April 2014.
The AGM is your chance to be elected as a 2014/15 committee member, so this is your opportunity to get more involved in the society or committee that you love.
All society members may stand for a position in that society's committee. All students are welcome to stand for a position on a Working or Representative Committee.
Take a look at the Committee Roles guides to find out what the roles and responsibilities are for each position. Remember that different committees may also have a whole load of additional positions, so get in touch with the relevant group. If you have any other questions, contact the Activities & Sports Zone.
Some societies and committees hold elections in September to recruit First-Year students onto their committee. If you are a First Year Undergraduate in 2013/14 and you are elected onto a committee, you must submit your committee details form by Friday 25 October 2013 in order to be eligible to have your committee role recognised on your HEAR. Email the HEAR Development Coordinator, Megan, at megan.howlett@sheffield.ac.uk for more information.
