Capoeira is a unique 400 year old Brazilian art-form deeply rooted in ritual and custom. It combines dance, martial arts, music, and gymnastics into a distinctive sport and game for everyone. The combinations of skills used in Capoeira develop endurance, flexibility and alertness in its practioners as well as physical strength, mental balance and creativity.
Our group, Cordao de Ouro ("The Belt of Gold") was founded in Brazil in 1967 by Mestre Suassuna and Mestre Brasilia, teachers of Capoeira. Since then CDO has grown to be one of the most recognised groups in Capoeira, with schools all over the world.
During the previous academic year, our group in Sheffield has performed several demonstrations at Union events, and travelled to other UK cities, such as Manchester, to take part in Capoeira events. We attend a grading ceremony or 'Batizado' in Nottingham, at which our members can gain their first belts or advance to the next belt level.
New members are always welcome, drop us an email if you want to learn more about this exciting art form!
