Amnesty International is one of the world's biggest human rights organisations. We are ordinary people from around the world standing up for humanity and human rights. Our purpose is to protect individuals wherever justice, fairness, freedom and truth are denied. Here at Sheffield University, as part of Amnesty International, we campaign for human rights; for instance, working for the release of someone imprisoned solely for the peaceful expression of their beliefs, or campaigning against torture.
We hold regular letter-writing sessions, meetings and speakers' visits. Our weekly meeting is held MONDAYS AT 7 PM IN GALLERY ROOM 4 in the Students' Union. Everyone is welcome to come along !
This semester we are focusing on Amnesty's campaign for a bulletproof Arms Trade Treaty. Have a look here for more information http://www.amnesty.org.uk/content.asp?CategoryID=10079 and come along to our meeting to get involved.
We are also doing other campaigns that Amnesty International UK have got going on, for up to date information, have a look here: http://www.amnesty.org.uk/content.asp?CategoryID=21.
